7th Season of Plays

Mahogany Ensemble presents the regional premiere of 'Spring Chickens' written by, New Orleans native, Mawiyah Bomani. This original work is presented as part of METs inaugural Write On! New Play Series which serves as a creative platform for the advancement of new literary works created by Southern playwrights. Directed by Angelique Feaster Evans, Spring Chickens is a touching one-act drama that explores the twist and turns that come with a new 'season of life' for a middle aged married couple. This ensemble cast features: Baryshnikov Chambers, Netosha MacDonald, Justin McMullen, Neverlyn Townsel, Evonne Cash, and Angelique Feaster Evans.

About Mawiyah Kai EL-Jamah Bomani
Mawiyah Kai EL-Jamah Bomani is a native New Orleanian and Yoruba Priestess. Her writings have appeared in Thicker Than Water, The Crab Orchard Review, Dark Eros, Catch The Fire, Freeform Magazine, Beyond The Frontier, Kente Cloth, Fertile Ground, Family Portraits, Chicken Bones: A Literary Journal, Survival Digest Quarterly, From A Bend In The River, and Women’s Issues and Feminism in the 21st Century and her forthcoming books: Dead Man Stew, Esu and the Magic Walking Stick and Moon Over Oluweku’s Garden.
Mawiyah’s passion for writing also extends into the arena of theater with the following plays to her credit: Brown Blood Black Womb Hair Anthem, Spring Chickens, What Happens to Niggers in French Quarter Nightclubs and Hoodoo Gumbo.
Mawiyah Bomani is an educator who currently resides in Shreveport, Louisiana with her mother husband and five children.
